Buy a business in Serbia, or sell yours to a foreign buyer

One team coordinates the deal side and the move: ownership, permits, families, address and accounting.

Short answer

Relocation Serbia helps foreigners buy a business in Serbia, helps Serbian owners sell to or raise money from foreign buyers, and helps foreign companies acquire here and move their managers. The deal itself (valuation, buyer and investor search, due diligence, contracts) is run by licensed M&A advisers and independent Serbian attorneys we work with, while we stay your single point of contact and handle the people side. After closing, ownership and director changes are registered with the Serbian Business Registers Agency (APR), and residence and work permits for owners and managers are decided by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Is this you?

This page is for three situations. If one of them is yours, the rest of the page tells you how the work is split and what you pay us.

You want to buy a Serbian company. You are a foreign national or a foreign company looking at a business in Serbia. You want someone to bring in the right adviser and attorney, and then sort out ownership, your own residence and your family after closing.

You own a Serbian company and want a foreign buyer or investor. You want your business valued and put in front of buyers or investors outside Serbia, by people licensed to do that, with one contact who speaks your buyer’s language and handles the paperwork after the sale.

Your company is acquiring in Serbia and sending managers. You are buying a Serbian business or a stake in one, and your people need residence and work permits, a registered address and accounting in place from day one.

Not sure which one you are? The four steps below are the same for all three. See how it works →

How does buying or selling a business in Serbia work with us?

Four steps, in this order. This is how the work is organised, not a do-it-yourself guide. Every deal is different, and the parties and the authorities decide the outcome.

  1. 01Tell us what you want to buy, sell or fund.

One email or a 45-minute call. We ask what the business does, where the money comes from and who needs to live in Serbia afterwards.

  2. 02We bring in the right licensed adviser and attorney for the deal.

You engage them directly. Their scope and fee are set out in writing before any work starts.

  3. 03The deal side runs with them. We stay your single contact.

Valuation, buyer or investor search, due diligence and contracts are their work. We keep the move and the paperwork lined up behind it.

  4. 04After closing, we handle ownership changes, permits, families, address and accounting.

The APR filings, the residence and work permits, the registered address and the first months of bookkeeping.

What does Relocation Serbia do, and what do the specialists do?

The deal work is licensed work, and we are not licensed to do it. The people side is our work. The table shows the split for a typical acquisition of a Serbian d.o.o. (limited liability company).

What usually goes wrong in a Serbian business acquisition?

Four things we see often. None of them is about the price of the business. All of them are about the order of the steps.

01Buying before the residence route is checked
Owning a company does not by itself give the owner the right to live in Serbia. The permit is a separate decision, so the route is checked before money moves.
02Ownership change filed late at APR
The law gives 15 days from the change to file. A late or incomplete filing leaves the register showing the old owner.
03Managers arriving without permits
A manager who starts work without a unified permit puts the company at risk of fines. Permits are applied for first.
04No plan for the seller’s staff
Employment contracts, payroll and the accountant need a handover date. Without one, salaries and tax filings slip in the first month.

Frequently asked questions

Is Relocation Serbia a broker?

No. We coordinate. Licensed M&A advisers and independent Serbian attorneys run the deal, and you engage them directly. Our work is the ownership filings, the permits, the registered address and the accounting after closing.

Who decides whether a deal or a permit goes through?

The parties decide the deal, and the authorities decide the filings and permits. APR registers ownership and director changes, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs decides residence and work permits. We promise nothing about their decisions.

Can a foreigner own 100% of a Serbian company?

In most sectors, yes. Foreign and domestic investors are treated the same under Serbia’s Law on Investments, and the share-transfer agreement is signed before a public notary. A few regulated sectors have their own rules, which the attorney checks first.

Does buying a business give me residence in Serbia?

Not by itself. Ownership and residence are two separate decisions. Owners and managers apply for a unified permit for temporary residence and work, which the Ministry of Internal Affairs decides. We check the route before you buy.

How are the advisers and attorneys paid?

By you, on a written quote they give before any work starts. You engage them directly, and their scope and price are agreed with you in writing. Our own prices are on the pricing page.

Relocation Serbia helps foreigners buy a business in Serbia, helps Serbian owners sell to or raise money from foreign buyers, and helps foreign companies acquire here and move their managers. The deal work (valuation, buyer and investor search, due diligence and contracts) is done by licensed M&A advisers and independent Serbian attorneys we work with, on their own written quotes. Relocation Serbia is the single point of contact and handles the people side: ownership and director changes at the Serbian Business Registers Agency (APR), residence and work permits for owners and managers from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, family reunification, a registered address, and accounting for smaller companies, from offices in Belgrade and Novi Sad.
