Residency & Citizenship
You can obtain temporary residence through company formation, property ownership, family reunification, employment, or study. Company formation is the most common and flexible route for remote workers and entrepreneurs. We map the best option to your goals and manage the application end to end.
Yes — through naturalisation or marriage. Naturalisation generally takes around six years of residence (three years of temporary residence, then three years of permanent residence). Marriage to a Serbian citizen allows an application after three years of marriage combined with permanent residence, with no language test. We assess your eligibility and handle the full process.
On average around 4–6 weeks once your documentation is submitted. We handle the preparation up front to avoid delays and rejections.
Not necessarily. Serbia permits dual citizenship in many cases — and does not require renunciation for citizenship by descent or by marriage. For naturalisation it's assessed case by case. Your home country's own rules also apply, and we review both sides with you.
Yes, in many cases. Serbia allows you to keep your existing passport for citizenship by descent and by marriage; for naturalisation, renunciation is assessed individually and may not be required where your home country prohibits it. Whether your country accepts dual citizenship is the other half of the question — we check both.
Taxes, Costs & Entry
Citizens of the US, UK, Canada, the EU and many other countries can enter Serbia visa-free for up to 90 days within any 180-day period. For stays beyond that, you'll need a temporary residence permit — most commonly via company formation or property ownership.
A Serbian company (DOO) is typically registered in about 5 business days. The minimum share capital is just €1, and 100% foreign ownership is allowed — no local partner required.
Serbia's corporate income tax is a flat 15% — among the lowest rates in Europe, which is a major reason entrepreneurs base companies here.
Salary income is taxed at a flat 10%, with a monthly non-taxable allowance — low by European standards. The right structure for your situation (employment vs. company) is something we plan with you.
No. Serbia has double taxation treaties with 60+ countries — including the UK and Canada — but not the United States. US citizens remain subject to US worldwide taxation regardless of where they live, and rely on the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion and Foreign Tax Credit rather than treaty relief, alongside FBAR and FATCA obligations. We coordinate with US-qualified tax advisors on this.
Generally, yes. Housing, food, dining, and services typically cost considerably less than in Western Europe, the US, or Canada — one of the main draws for remote workers, families, and retirees relocating here.
Real Estate & Banking
Yes — either on a reciprocity basis (where your country has a reciprocity arrangement with Serbia) or by purchasing through a Serbian company. We confirm which applies to your nationality and guide whichever route fits.
We help you find the property, run due diligence, coordinate the legal checks and notarised contract, and complete land-registry registration. The transfer tax is 2.5%, and a typical purchase completes in around 30–60 days. No Serbian required — we handle the communication throughout.
We help you choose the right bank, prepare your documentation, and attend the account opening with you — whether personal or business — so it's handled correctly the first time.
Some banks require you to be physically present. Working with us, we can coordinate with select institutions to open your account with fewer visits where possible, and we'll tell you up front what your nationality and situation realistically allow.
Business Setup & Corporate
We handle company registration, tax ID, bank account, and accounting setup — whether you're setting up as a sole trader or a DOO (the Serbian LLC). The core registration takes about 5 business days.
No. Foreigners can own 100% of a Serbian company, with no requirement for a local partner. We make sure the setup is fully compliant from the start.
Most types — technology startups, consulting firms, real-estate businesses, trade and import/export, and more. We help you choose the right legal structure for your goals and tax position.
Yes. Forming a company is a recognised and flexible route to a temporary residence permit — often the most cost-effective option for remote workers and entrepreneurs. It's one of the setups we handle most often.
